After a leisurely morning and midday repast, the group split into two parties. E.W. Sparrow, Mr. Clark, and Howard Longyear took the Abbie a few miles down the coast to fish for trout. J.M. Longyear and Mox, now joined by Dr. Tappey, chose to visit the upper falls. As this contingent set up to photograph the waterfall from above, rain started to fall. In their hike back to camp they saw a bald eagle and heard the howl of a distant wolf.
