Victorian Christmas Celebration
December 17, 6:00 - 8:00 pm

Let's celebrate the Victorian Christmas together.  The Victorian era really made the celebration of Christmas something special.  Mistletoe, exchanging gifts, caroling, sending greeting cards were all traditions adopted by the Victorians.  Prince Albert, Queen Victoria's German husband, introduced the first Christmas tree to England.

Early gifts were handmade, however by the late 1880s, Macy's Department Store windows were filled with toys and dolls for gift giving.  Elaborate tree ornaments and Thomas Nast's illustration of Santa as a round bellied whiskered figure dressed in red and white became popular.

"The Celebration Ringers", a hand bell choir from the First United Methodist Church will be ringing Christmas carols from 6:00 to 6:45.  Come and listen and join in singing, followed by a reading at 7:00 by Jessica "Red" Bays of Twas the Night Before Christmas.  There will be great smells, a few tastes, a chance to make a Victorian ornament and be sure to check out the Victorian exhibit in the special exhibit gallery.  This event is free and all are welcome. Donations appreciated.
